Cinere, (was) Home Sweet Home


Introduction

A long time ago, Cinere was still covered by forests. It was only a small village in Bogor/Depok area, very far away from the hustle city of Jakarta. Most of the people were Betawinese and not Sundanese, although it is actually part of West Java province. It was a very quiet and calm village.

But now, Cinere has changed. From a small village, Cinere has grown, become a small town near the south border of Jakarta. Now, many people are looking for houses in Cinere. Real estate and property businesses are growing rapidly, not only in Cinere, but also in some nearby villages such as Gandul, Limo, Pangkalan Jati, Meruyung and Grogol.

Banks are growing rapidly in Cinere. Almost all Indonesian reputable banks are opening their branches in Cinere, including BCA, Lippobank, Bank Danamon, Bank Bali and Bank Niaga. Even Citibank is opening its ATM Boutique at Cinere Mall. So you don't have to afraid of out of cash while you are visiting Cinere. Some ATMs are accepting Visa and Mastercard for cash advance.


Some interesting places around Cinere

Cinere Mall, Jalan Cinere Raya No. 1
Cinere Mall is the main destination if we want to have fun in Cinere. Located in the heart of Cinere, you can shop in some small stores there. The anchor tenant is Matahari Department Store. You can also have a nice meal at Kentucky Fried Chicken (ground floor) or Pizza Hut (on a small building beside the mall), or try various Indonesian modern and traditional food in the Matahari food court (basement floor). And don't forget to have Indonesian made donuts at Dunkin Donuts (ground floor). You can also find your favorite books at Gramedia Bookstore (first floor) or Karisma Bookstore (ground floor), or watch movies at the Cinere 21 cinema (second floor).
Amelia Restaurant, Jalan Punak
Located near a small lake on Jalan Punak, you can find any kind of Indonesian food. You can also have a nice fishing there, and getting around the lake with a "water-cycle".
Pangkalan Jati Golf Course, Jalan Jati Indah Timur
This is for the golf lovers. Divided into two large fields, this golf course is located in Jalan Jati Indah Timur, the main road from Cinere to Pondok Labu, South Jakarta.
Cinere Country Club, Jalan Mars Raya, Villa Cinere Mas
Located in Jalan Mars Raya, Villa Cinere Mas, this is the biggest country club in Cinere. There are many facilities in this club, such as fitness centre, swimming pool, sauna, tennis court, and many more.
Bakmi Villa Restaurant, Jalan Pluto, Villa Cinere Mas
Here is the place for noodle lovers. In Bakmi Villa Restaurant, you can have Bakmi Ayam (chicken noodles), Bakmi Bakso (meatballs noodles), Bakmi Pangsit, and also Yamin ala Bandung (noodles without soup). Located on Jalan Pluto, Villa Cinere Mas. The price is low, since it is a traditional restaurant. Satisfaction guaranteed. :-)
Food Plaza, Jalan Cinere Raya
Many kedais on Jalan Cinere Raya, in front of Cinere Mall, are forming a food plaza. Open at night, you can find most Indonesian traditional food at very low price, such as soto betawi (Betawinese soup), sate padang (padang satay), roti bakar (toasted bread), pisang bakar (toasted banana), sate kambing dan ayam (mutton and chicken satay), and many more.
Bubur Ayam Djoko, Jalan Cinere Raya
If you like chicken porridge, then you'll love Bubur Ayam Djoko. Opens in the morning, the kedai is located in front of Lippobank on Jalan Cinere Raya. On Saturday and Sunday morning, many people come to this place to have chicken porridge as their breakfast. They also serve nasi uduk.
Toko Roti Medan, Jalan Bukit Cinere
If you like any kind of bread, this is the right place to go. This bakery shop provides almost all kind of bread, such as cheese bread, chocolate bread, etc. The shop also sells ice creams, cakes, and even chicken nuggets. The bakery shop is located along Jalan Bukit Cinere, between Cinere and Gandul.
Cinere Market, Jalan Cinere Raya
This is the old-style market, which is the former town center of Cinere before Cinere Mall is built. Located in Jalan Cinere Raya, between Jalan Sengon and Jalan Bukit Cinere.
Gandul
This is a small village, located on the east of Cinere. Now, both of Cinere and Gandul are famous as a couple of villages from the south of Jakarta. If you used to be a big fan of "Si Doel Anak Sekolahan" sinetron, you'll know why. :-) (Remember Mandra as a conductor of an old "oplet" and yell "Ganduuulll... Ganduuulll.. Cinere... Ganduuulll...." :-) )

How do I get to Cinere?

It's quite easy to reach Cinere from every part of Jakarta:
From most of every part of Jakarta: Take any buses to Blok M bus interchange, and then transfer to the red bus Metromini S619 to Cinere.
From the Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport: Take the DAMRI bus to Blok M Plaza, and then walk to the Blok M bus interchange. From there, take the red bus Metromini S619 to Cinere.
From Blok M bus interchange: Take the red bus Metromini S619 to Cinere.
From Jakarta's Central Business District/Thamrin/Sudirman and Gambir train station: Take the Steady Safe bus Patas-AC P20 to Pondok Labu, and then transfer to the blue angkot 61 or 102 to Cinere. Or take any buses to Blok M bus interchange, and then transfer to the red bus Metromini S619 to Cinere.
From Lebak Bulus bus interchange: Take the red angkot S03 to Pondok Labu. and then transfer to the blue angkot 61 or 102 to Cinere.
From Pondok Labu: Take the blue angkot 61 or 102 to Cinere.

If you want to go to Gandul:
From Cinere: Take the blue angkot 110 to Gandul, through Jalan Bukit Cinere.
From Pondok Labu: Take the blue angkot 105 or red angkot S16 to Gandul, through Jalan Pangkalan Jati.

"Angkot" stands for "angkutan kota", or city transportation. The fare of angkot varies according to distance, ranging from Rp 1,200 to Rp 5,000, check with the driver or the conductor. The fare of the Metromini is around Rp 1,500, while the fare of Patas-AC bus is around Rp 3,000 to Rp 4,000.

If the buses and angkots are too crowded for you, you can take a taxi to Cinere. The estimated fare from the central business district of Jakarta (Sudirman) to Cinere is around Rp 50,000. We recommend you to use Blue Bird Group taxis, such as Blue Bird, Morante, Cendrawasih, Gamya, etc.

Whichever transportation you choose, please be patient with the traffic jams. Jakarta is very famous for its huge traffic! Forget about the MRT, unlike Singapore, Jakarta does not have mass rapid transportation.


Finding your own way to Cinere

If you take a cab or drive your own car from Jakarta's city center to Cinere, there are some ways to get to Cinere.

Take note that there are two main "gates" to reach Cinere from north (Jakarta), one is via Jalan RS Fatmawati and the other one is via Lebak Bulus.

From Jalan RS Fatmawati: Follow Jalan RS Fatmawati southbound until you pass the Fatmawati Hospital on your left. After you see Giant supermarket on your left, turn right into Jalan Lebak Bulus 3 and continue to Jalan Gunung Balong. Be careful, this road is quite small and there's one section of the road which you need to take turn with cars from the opposite direction. You will then reach a T-junction at Jalan Karang Tengah Raya, the main road leading to Cinere. Turn left, and follow the road until you reach a big junction, with Cinere Hospital on your right. You will then reach Jalan Cinere Raya, with Cinere Mall on your right.

From Lebak Bulus: When you reach Lebak Bulus bus terminal on your left, keep left and then turn left into Jalan Pasar Jumat Raya. Follow the road until you see a Y-junction, take the left fork towards Cinere/Fatmawati and do not take the right fork towards Cireundeu. Be careful, the signs are not well posted. Please ensure that you see a petrol station on your left, right after the Y-junction. Follow the road, and you will reach a junction with a traffic light. Turn right on the traffic light junction, and you will hit Jalan Karang Tengah Raya, the main road to Cinere. Turn left, and follow the road until you reach a big junction, with Cinere Hospital on your right. You will then reach Jalan Cinere Raya, with Cinere Mall on your right.

From Jakarta's central business district (CBD)/Sudirman area:
Take the Jalan Jenderal Sudirman highway southbound towards Kebayoran Baru (Blok M). Keep left after Semanggi flyover, and then take the left fork towards Jalan Pattimura and Jalan Hasanudin. You will see Pasaraya Blok M on your right, just keep straight towards Jalan Sultan Iskandarsyah and Jalan Prapanca. You will then join the Jalan Arteri Prapanca highway. At the end of the highway, turn right and join the Outer Ring Road highway. Do not join the expressway in the middle of the highway. Once you reach Jalan Fatmawati junction, turn left and join Jalan Fatmawati, follow the signs to Pondok Labu and Cinere. You can then follow the above direction from Jalan RS Fatmawati to continue your journey to Cinere.

From Jakarta's central business district (CBD)/Kuningan area:
Take the Jalan HR Rasuna Said highway southbound towards Mampang Prapatan. Keep straight once you reach Kuningan junction, and proceed straight to Jalan Mampang Prapatan highway towards Ragunan. Keep straight all the way until you reach the Outer Ring Road junction. Do not proceed straight towards Ragunan Zoo, instead turn right and join the Outer Ring Road highway westbound. No need to join the expressway in the middle of the highway. Pass the Cilandak junction, and keep on straight until you reach Jalan Fatmawati junction. Once you reach Jalan Fatmawati junction, turn left and join Jalan Fatmawati, follow the signs to Pondok Labu and Cinere. You can then follow the above direction from Jalan RS Fatmawati to continue your journey to Cinere.

From West Jakarta:
Take the Pejompongan highway southbound towards Simprug and Kebayoran Lama. Do not exit the highway in Kebayoran Lama, just proceed straight towards Pondok Indah. You will pass the Pondok Indah underpass near Pondok Indah Mall. Just proceed straight towards Lebak Bulus, you will see McDonalds Pondok Indah, Lebak Bulus stadium and Lebak Bulus bus interchange on your left. You can then follow the above direction from Lebak Bulus to continue your journey to Cinere.

From East Jakarta:
Take the Jagorawi expressway southbound towards Bogor. If you're using the the Inner Ring Road Expressway either from Semanggi (CBD area) or from Tanjung Priok (North Jakarta area), you can join the Jagorawi expressway seamlessly via the Cawang flyover. Look for signs towards Pondok Indah and BSD. After Taman Mini exit, keep left and ensure that you join the Outer Ring Road westbound towards Pondok Indah (not eastbound towards Cikunir). You will see Makro hypermarket on your left, just keep straight and do not exit the expressway until you see the exit sign for Pondok Labu. Exit the expressway at Pondok Labu exit, and then immediately keep left and make sure you can turn left to Jalan Fatmawati. You will see the Fatmawati hospital on the left. You can then follow the above direction from Jalan RS Fatmawati to continue your journey to Cinere.

From Bogor/Puncak area:
Take the Jagorawi expressway northbound towards Jakarta. After you pay your toll at Cibubur toll gate, go straight and look for exit signs towards Pondok Indah. Exit Jagorawi expressway at Kampung Rambutan (Pondok Indah exit), and you will join the Outer Ring Road expressway westbound. You will see Makro hypermarket on your left, just keep straight and do not exit the expressway until you see the exit sign for Pondok Labu. Exit the expressway at Pondok Labu exit, and then immediately keep left and make sure you can turn left to Jalan Fatmawati. You will see the Fatmawati hospital on the left. You can then follow the above direction from Jalan RS Fatmawati to continue your journey to Cinere.

From Bandung:
Take the Cipularang expressway from Bandung to Jakarta. After reaching Jakarta-Cikampek expressway, exit at Cikunir and follow the Outer Ring Road expressway towards Pondok Indah. You will see Makro hypermarket on your left, just keep straight and do not exit the expressway until you see the exit sign for Pondok Labu. Exit the expressway at Pondok Labu exit, and then immediately keep left and make sure you can turn left to Jalan Fatmawati. You will see the Fatmawati hospital on the left. You can then follow the above direction from Jalan RS Fatmawati to continue your journey to Cinere.


Where to stay?

Unfortunately, since Cinere is a residential area, there's no hotels, motels or guest houses around Cinere area. The nearest area where you can stay is around Kebayoran Baru (Blok M) or Kemang, where some of the hotels and guest houses are located around the South Jakarta area.
